| In his works the artist and habilitated philosopher Thomas Lehnerer deals with fundamental questions of the human existence and therefore poses question about the creation of icons in general. His figures are mostly sculptured from wax or clay and later cast in bronze Sometimes he also uses dried meat as a material. They are all remarcably small. In this regard they ressemble idols. The notion of poverty is crucial for Lehnerers' idea of man and self-conception as an artist. All his figures embody poverty. In terms of powerlessness all human beings are in Lehnerers' opinion characterized by poorness, mankind can be difined as homo pauper. A humble state of mind can in the artists' opinion ultimately give rise to freedom and happiness. |
